Physical Education

Welcome!

At San Marcos Elementary we want all of our students to succeed. Whether it is in the classroom or on the playing field, we measure success by effort, improvement and fun. PE is a time during the school day when students are encouraged to enjoy structured athletics and games that develop their mental and physical strength.

San Marcos Elementary Tigers attend P.E. classes twice a week for 50 minutes at a time. This is within the guidelines established by the state of California. On most days, P.E. consists of two warm-up laps at a speed walk/light jog pace, followed by stretches and the day's activity. It is very important that parents have their children:

  1. Wear appropriate shoes on the days they have P.E. Closed toe, preferably an athletic shoe or something with a soft sole that can provide good support for sports activities, is suggested.
  2. Bring a water bottle to P.E. It is important that our young athletes learn to stay hydrated.

Students are graded on their participation, effort, and sportsmanship. At SME we also conduct intramural sports leagues and running club during lunch.

During the school year, students will learn and play soccer, kickball, flag football, nation ball, and more. Additionally, they will be given strength and cardiovascular training. Cooperative games which use the parachute or involve gaining each other's trust are also introduced. If for some reason, your student cannot participate in the day's P.E. activities, please send a note to your teacher for the coach with an explanation. Severe injuries involving a cast, etc. require a doctor's note and the student's teacher and the office must be notified.
