Character Education Program

Do you live The Tiger Way? We do at SME. We believe students need good role models who demonstrate positive character traits. At San Marcos Elementary, we want our students not only to be academically prepared for their future success in school and life, but also how to be the best, all-around person they can be today. Teachers and staff at SME focus on eight important character traits every year. Each month, in the classrooms, a new character trait will be introduced and the students will have an opportunity to learn what that trait means in words and examples that are grade appropriate. Staff on campus have Tiger Stripes that they pass out to student who demonstrate one or more of the positive character traits during recess, lunch or anytime they are outside of their classroom. Two students from each classroom who exemplify the month's character trait will be chosen to be honored at the Flag Assembly at our Good Citizen’s Assembly and at our Student of the Month. To enhance your student's education, please make plans to discuss these traits at home with your entire family. You just might be inspired by the conversation. After all, we are never too old or too young to make a difference and HAVE good character.
